01How Do Apex and VWO (Wingify) Compare at a Glance?
VWO and AB Tasty announced their merger on January 20, 2026 and relaunched as Wingify on September 16, 2026. VWO and AB Tasty stay as product brands, and vwo.com and abtasty.com now redirect to wingify.com. Wingify reports more than 4,000 customers and 700 employees. Coverage of the merger reports existing contracts unchanged and no forced migration; in Wingify’s words, “Nothing about this launch asks our customers to start over.”

02What Is Each Tool Built For?
Wingify calls itself “the Agentic Experience Optimization Platform”. The homepage promise reads: “You set the direction and guardrails. Wingz figures out what to do next and acts on it.” Wingz is the AI layer that brought VWO Copilot and AB Tasty’s Evi together in September 2026.
Apex by DRIP is an A/B testing platform for companies selling online that predicts which tests will win before they go live, built on one of the largest A/B test databases in e-commerce. It works in three layers. The test memory holds 4.3 million A/B tests from 151,000 shops, collected since 2011, and every test idea gets a Likelihood to Win before launch. The testing tool builds, launches and evaluates tests directly in the shop, with heat maps per variant, profit per test and the chat. Managed execution means tests are built, checked, launched and read together with the DRIP team. The plain version: we know what shops like yours tested and which tests won.
So the two answer different questions. Wingify asks how much of the testing work agents can take over. Apex asks which tests deserve the work at all.
03What Can You Test With Each Tool?
- Pages and page elements: both.
- Parallel tests: Apex runs parallel tests on the same traffic, with optional exclusion groups, plus A/A tests, redirect tests and a global holdout.
- Theme tests on Shopify: VWO runs them via split URL.
- Feature rollouts: both. Wingify’s Rollout Agent “stages a feature out, holds on a guardrail, reverts, resumes”. Apex has feature flags and staged rollouts.
- Synthetic visitors: Wingify’s Synthetic Testing Agent “tests a change on synthetic visitors built from your real segments” before real traffic sees it. Apex does not offer this.
- Prices, offers and checkout: VWO’s Shopify page lists price testing as “coming soon”, offer testing is not in Wingify’s product list, and the Shopify script does not run on checkout pages. Apex’s published test types are the ones listed above.
- Search, recommendations and merchandising: Wingify sells these in a separate Commerce Suite. That is a different product category from an A/B testing platform like Apex.
04How Do Tests Get Built and Launched?
Wingify: agents with an approval gate
Wingz “interprets the design intent and builds the variation” from text, a Figma file, a screenshot or a PDF, and the result is “visible and editable before anything ships”. The Experiment Agent “prepares audience, variations, metrics, and launch”. A QA step “reviews configurations before launch; flags potential risks”, and a human signs off. Wingify’s rule is plain: “Nothing goes live without approval.”
Autonomy is “a dial, not an all or nothing”, from propose-and-approve to autopilot. Wingify states that “the safeguards never switch off: an approval gate, guardrail metrics, traffic caps, a kill switch, and a permanent holdout.” Wingz Workflows chain agents, teams can build custom agents, and enterprise customers can bring their own model.
Apex: code, visual builder and your AI assistant
Apex keeps the experiment config as code, with a code editor and a visual builder called Operator. CLI preview links let you see a test before launch, and QA runs via preview. The MCP connection lets a shop owner build and read tests from ChatGPT or Claude without a terminal; the CLI is the developer path. Four QA checks are shown to clients: all devices, tracking and targeting, responsive, matches design.
Who does the work
The larger difference is who runs the program. Wingify has “200+ Customer Success Experts” and a dedicated success manager on Enterprise, but we found no managed experimentation service: its people support your team, they do not build and run your tests. Apex has managed execution as its third layer, where tests are built, checked, launched and read together with the DRIP team.
05How Are Winners Chosen Before Launch?
Apex: a Likelihood to Win per idea
In Apex, every test idea gets a Likelihood to Win before launch: one percent figure per idea, shown with how many tests back it. It comes from the test memory of 4.3 million A/B tests from 151,000 shops. In a holdout check within a shop, the top third of ideas won 1.4 to 1.6 times as often (press release, September 29, 2026). Predictions for 33 brands were scored and frozen in early September 2026, and results are published from the launch on.
Apex scores each idea against 4.3 million observed A/B tests from 151,000 shops and shows how many tests back each score. The nearest published figure in this comparison is Kameleoon’s Ideate, trained on more than 20,000 experiments; Varify cites 10,000 or more test patterns; no other vendor in this comparison publishes a count of tests behind its recommendations (vendor pages checked October 2026).
Wingify: ranked ideas and synthetic visitors
Wingify’s Hypothesis Agent “turns evidence into ranked, testable ideas and drafts the variations”, and “recommendations are presented for human review”. Wingify says its AI is “trained on AB Tasty's proprietary data and user insights” and on “Wingify's proprietary data and UX principles”. It publishes no corpus size and no win prediction per idea.
What Wingify adds instead is the Synthetic Testing Agent, which runs a change on synthetic visitors built from your real segments. Apex ranks an idea against observed tests from other shops; Wingify simulates your own visitors.
06How Do the Statistics and Metrics Differ?
VWO’s statistics engine is Bayesian SmartStats. Evi Explore adds revenue projections with confidence intervals. A Guardrail Agent reverses breaches of the guardrails your team sets, and the Rollout Agent can hold on a guardrail and revert a release.
Apex uses fixed-horizon tests with confidence. Each test reports the main metric, lift and runtime revenue. On Shopify, Apex also reports profit per test and can optimise for profit, using discount share, refund share and profit per sale. Guardian stops a test automatically when it crosses a revenue loss threshold.
07What Do VWO (Wingify) and Apex Cost?
VWO (Wingify): plans checked October 2026
- Plans: Growth, Pro and Enterprise, with no public prices. Concurrent campaigns: 3 on Growth, 5 on Pro, unlimited on Enterprise. Enterprise adds an account manager (humblytics.com, October 1, 2026).
- Scaling: by monthly tracked users, Growth from 250,000 to 500,000, Pro up to 12 million (same source).
- Reported prices: in-app VWO Testing prices at 100,000 monthly tracked users were $665 a month on Growth with annual billing and $1,336 on Pro (mida.so, May 19, 2026). Wingify does not publish them.
- Free option: the free Starter plan is gone. A 30-day trial without a card remains.
Commentators expect change after the merger. Mida expects prices to rise for mid-market customers, and Trustpilot reviews of VWO include complaints about renewal pricing and billing.
Apex
Apex pricing is not published. A card-free free tier for one store exists. Beyond that, the next step is to book a call. This is the main limitation of Apex in this comparison: if you need a published price list before a conversation, Apex does not give you one.
08How Do Data, Hosting and Compliance Compare?
Apex: GDPR in place; hosting in the EU plus UK; DPAs for US tools; ISO 27001 and SOC 2 in progress, with no certification claimed yet. Consent apps for most Shopify GDPR apps are supported, and tracking runs server-side with first-party data.
Wingify: the company has an office in Cologne, a GmbH address in Frankfurt and a German-language site. The sources we checked for this comparison do not state where customer data is hosted or which certifications apply. Ask Wingify for its data processing terms and hosting region before you sign.
09Where Is VWO (Wingify) the Better Choice?
- Your own team runs the tests and wants agents to do more of the work: Wingz covers research, ideas, building, launch and rollout, with autonomy up to autopilot and custom agents.
- You want to check a change before real traffic sees it: the Synthetic Testing Agent tests it on synthetic visitors built from your real segments. Apex does not offer this.
- You want a large vendor with a wide ecosystem, or you already run VWO or AB Tasty: more than 4,000 customers, 600+ agency partners, G2 ratings of 4.4 for VWO Testing and AB Tasty, and existing contracts unchanged after the merger.
10Where Is Apex the Better Choice?
- Your tests keep coming back flat and the constraint is choosing which tests to run, not building them: every idea gets a Likelihood to Win from 4.3 million observed A/B tests before anything is built.
- You want tests judged on profit, not revenue alone: Apex reports profit per test on Shopify, using discount share, refund share and profit per sale.
- You want the tests run with you, not just supported: managed execution means tests are built, checked, launched and read together with the DRIP team.
Apex is not the right choice for every shop. A team that already picks winning tests well gets less from the prediction layer. A shop that cannot ship a test a week yet should build that habit on a lighter tool; buying prediction before you can execute is the wrong order. And anyone who needs a published price list before a conversation will not find one.
11Verdict: Apex or VWO (Wingify)?
Choose Wingify if your team builds and runs its own tests and wants AI agents to take on more of that work, inside a large vendor you may already use through VWO or AB Tasty. Choose Apex by DRIP if your constraint is choosing which tests to run, because every idea gets a Likelihood to Win from 4.3 million observed A/B tests before anything is built. If you need published prices, neither tool gives you a price list today; Apex has a card-free free tier for one store, Wingify a 30-day trial. If you are unsure, look at your last ten tests: many flat results point to a selection problem, while a long list of unbuilt ideas points to a capacity problem.
