The 8 Best A/B Testing Tools for Ecommerce in 2026

Eight platforms, one merchant question: what can this tool change in an online shop, and does it count orders correctly? We keep all eight in the ranking, including tools that stop at checkout, because merchants evaluate all eight.

The ranking

#1

Drip Trading GmbH

Apex by DRIP

#1, 9.4/10

Our platform Apex is the only tool here that reaches past the storefront into the money: Shopify Cart Transform makes the tested price the price the customer is actually charged, and shipping offers and post-purchase upsells are first-class test types instead of workarounds. Results sit on order-level revenue with refunds, deduplication, average order value and revenue per visitor, and a prediction model trained on 4.3 million tests from 151,000 shops moved our program win rate from 27% in 2024 to 55% in the most recent quarter. Two honest caveats: the commerce surfaces are switched on per shop by Apex staff rather than self-serve, and revenue significance is deliberately gated in code after an internal certification measured false-positive rates above 20%. The Shopify app passed Shopify’s review but is not App Store listed, so merchants install through a direct link, and pricing only exists in a call.

Varify Software GmbH

Varify.io

#2, 8.6/10

Varify is the cheapest way to test a busy store: a flat rate from €199 per month with unlimited tracked users, so a traffic spike never turns into an invoice. It installs by snippet without an app, imports Shopify orders and revenue into its dashboard, and documents price, theme and template tests on the storefront. Checkout testing exists, but as a separate app at $119 per month on top, and only on Shopify Plus. The entry plan runs one-sided statistics by default and every plan covers one domain, which multi-brand and multi-country merchants will feel.

Convert Insights Inc.

Convert Experiences

#3, 8.1/10

Convert has the cleanest Shopify install in the field: a native app that injects the script without theme edits and stays compatible with checkout extensibility, plus documented price testing, multi-arm bandits and accurate order tracking. Its statistics are the most rigorous in this price class, with real sequential testing and an SRM check on every plan. For a store the cost model is the problem: Growth and Pro both stop at 100,000 tested users per month, and overage starts at $399 per extra 100,000. Note what checkout compatibility means here, tracking through the checkout, not editing it.

Best for: Shopify stores and agencies that want a clean app install and strict statistics

Kameleoon SAS

Kameleoon

#4, 7.3/10

Kameleoon is the only enterprise-class tool in this ranking with a public entry price, $495 per month for 10 experiments and 50,000 tracked users, and its Shopify app carries the Built for Shopify badge. Checkout testing is documented, but the route runs through Shopify Plus, a developer-built checkout UI extension and cart-attribute plumbing, so most merchants cannot use it. The app has zero reviews after four years on the App Store, which leaves a merchant with no peer signal at all. Feature management and personalization sit in the custom-priced Enterprise tier, not in the $495 plan.

Best for: Shopify Plus retailers with a developer and an enterprise budget

Conversion Expert GmbH

ABlyft

#5, 7.1/10

ABlyft counts orders better than almost anything else here: a server-side Shopify order webhook that ad blockers and missing consent cannot break, which is exactly where pixel-based revenue tracking quietly loses money. There is no Shopify app, no checkout testing and no documented Shopware or Magento path, so the store integration is tracking wiring rather than a packaged experience. The free plan is genuine, no credit card and no sales call, and paid plans are quoted per tested user. It is also a 2 to 10 person vendor, a real continuity question for a store betting its testing program on it.

Wingify (Everstone Capital)

VWO

#6, 6.9/10

VWO gives a merchant the widest toolset behind one login: testing, heatmaps, recordings, funnels, personalization and a CDP, with well-documented Bayesian statistics and automatic SRM checks. But its own Shopify page excludes checkout, post-purchase and order-status pages, so the highest-value tests in a store are off the table. Prices are published nowhere and scale per module and per tracked user, which makes the real cost of a busy shop impossible to estimate before a sales call. Procurement data puts the median contract near $16,300 per year.

AB Tasty

#7, 6.4/10

AB Tasty is built for large retail programs, with EmotionsAI segmentation, recommendations and merchandising next to the testing engine, and it publishes its Bayesian method in more detail than most competitors dare. For a store the record is thin: four Shopify app reviews since May 2024, and no public documentation on whether the Shopify checkout can be tested at all. Pricing is quote-only with no self-serve trial, median around $66,500 per year in procurement data. Since the January 2026 merger into VWO’s parent and the June cut of all French development teams, the product’s independent future is the first question to ask.

Optimizely (Insight Partners)

Optimizely Web Experimentation

#8, 6.0/10

Optimizely runs the best statistics in this comparison, sequential always-valid inference with false-discovery-rate control, and it is still the wrong tool for almost every store. There is no first-party Shopify app: install means a manual theme.liquid edit or a $29 per month third-party app, and Optimizely’s own docs state the snippet does not load on Shopify checkout pages. Revenue tracking leans on ODP, a separate paid product, and reviewers report reporting gaps on metrics like average order value. With a median contract near $81,000 per year, no trial and heavy developer dependency, it belongs to enterprise programs, not to merchants.

#1 Apex by DRIPMixedFrequentist engine with deliberately conservative defaults: fixed-horizon testing with Holm-Bonferroni correction and a sample-ratio-mismatch gate, plus optional always-valid (mSPRT) sequential analysis. Revenue significance is intentionally held back after internal certification measured 20%+ false-positive rates on naive revenue tests. On top: win-rate prediction from the 4.3M-test corpus lifts the average program win rate from 27% to 55%.Shopify appShopify app that passed Shopify’s review (installs via OAuth from the dashboard; not App-Store-listed yet), plus WooCommerce, Shopware, Centra and custom storefronts. Sequential Testing Alerts are loser-detection only, AB Tasty itself advises against calling winners early with them.Shopify appShopify app (free to install, launched May 2024): 4.9/5 from only 4 reviews, a thin footprint for an enterprise vendor. Procurement data (Vendr) puts the median around $66,500/year.
#8 Optimizely Web ExperimentationSequentialStats Engine: frequentist sequential testing with always-valid inference (mSPRT) and tiered Benjamini-Hochberg false-discovery-rate control, academically published and genuinely differentiated. Fixed-horizon and Bayesian options exist in beta (documented for Feature Experimentation). No appNo first-party Shopify app for Web Experimentation, install is a manual theme.liquid snippet edit or a $29/month third-party app. Optimizely’s own docs: the snippet does not load on Shopify checkout pages; checkout events need a custom pixel. Method

How we rate

We weight the tests that reach money first, then reliable order data and the install path. Visitor cost and developer effort complete the score. We state platform limits even when they lower our own platform's score.

30%

What you can actually test in a store

Charged price, shipping offers, checkout, post-purchase: how far into the money flow the tool reaches, and what it takes to get there (Shopify Plus, a developer, a paid add-on app).

25%

Order data you can trust

Order-level revenue, refunds, deduplication, average order value and revenue per visitor, and whether orders survive ad blockers and missing consent.

20%

Install path on shop platforms

App install versus theme edit versus developer project, App Store track record, and support for WooCommerce, Shopware and custom storefronts.

15%

Cost per tested visitor

Flat rate versus monthly tracked users, what a traffic spike costs, and which store capabilities are metered extras.

10%

Running tests without a developer

Launching and QA on a live shop, automatic protection when a variation loses money, and multi-store or agency accounts.

Common questions

Our platform Apex by DRIP ranks first for ecommerce. It is the only tool in this ranking that changes the price a customer is actually charged (Shopify Cart Transform) and tests shipping offers and post-purchase upsells. Varify follows on flat-rate cost, Convert on install quality and statistics.

Not with a normal snippet. Checkout Extensibility blocks third-party JavaScript there. The working routes are Shopify Functions and checkout UI extensions (Apex), Varify’s separate checkout app ($119/month, Plus only), or a Plus extension you build yourself (Kameleoon). VWO and Optimizely state they cannot.

Yes, but displayed price and charged price are two different problems. Most tools only change the price shown on the page, and the customer still pays the old one at checkout. Apex uses Shopify Cart Transform, so the tested price is the charged price. Convert and Varify document storefront price tests.

Flat rate wins as soon as traffic grows. Varify charges from €199 per month with unlimited tracked users. Convert caps Growth and Pro at 100,000 tested users a month, then bills from $399 per extra 100,000. VWO, Optimizely and AB Tasty bill per tracked user with no published number.

Server-side order data beats pixels. ABlyft and Apex read orders from Shopify webhooks, so ad blockers and missing consent cannot silently drop revenue. Apex also deduplicates by order, models refunds and tests revenue per visitor, but holds back the revenue winner call as uncertified.
